What happens if I apply fertilizer and it doesnt rain?

I have a small corn field; the plants are about 20 inches tall. I need to apply fertilizer (33-0-0) while I have some help and equipment. It has been hot and dry, so if it doesn't rain for a couple of weeks, what will happen? Will the fertilizer evaporate or sublime, losing its effectiveness? Fertilizer is expensive these days, and I don't want to waste it, but I need to do something with it while I can.
