My macbook pro display settings changed?

A program I was using changed the resolution on my macbook pro 13 inch, and when I go to the display menu and choose the right resolution (1280x800) the screen is still off, I have to scroll up and down to see everything, and the same with right and left. How do i get it back to normal?
