If have a conifer tree or shrub that has turned yellowish from lack of water,will it help to trim the branches?

Sometimes the branches block the ones below them, blocking the sunlight from reaching them. Perhaps cutting the bish in a triangular shape. With a wider base, which allows the sunlight to reach the branches at the bottom. Hopefully this will help.
