If i was doing an experiment on plant growth (fertilizer vs non fertilizer)?

How would i set up the experiment. I have to repeat the experiment 3 times for validity. So would i just grow a plant with fertilizer and without fertilizer, and repeat the experiment two more times. Or would i grow a plant with fertilizer and without fertilizer and then repeat the experiment 2 times with different fertilizers instead of the same one.
