I have to do a science experiment on "do plants grow better with fertilizer?

Ok, so obviously i would have a pot with no fertilizer just normal potting mix/soil, and another with fertilizer. However, i am confused which fertilizer to use, i was thinking nitrogen-based fertilizer however there are so many other fertilizers and i was wondering if you know any other fertilizers which i could test this experiment on.
