How often do I need to feed my houseplants?

I have a Ponytail palm tree and a bamboo plant. And may be getting a catus and venus flytrap in the near future. Just wanns know how often and what I should feed them. I know there's some speacial soil or fertilizer you can buy that "feeds" them, right? And I just feed them during the growing season, right? (spring and/or summer)?
